A 189-apartment elderly care building in Gibraltar exemplifies innovative water management with its use of the Hydraloop Cascade water recycling system. By collecting and reusing water from showers and air conditioners for the building’s launderette, the project effectively addresses wastewater capacity challenges and supports the building’s proposed size. This system not only made the project feasible but also significantly increased the building’s value.

The incorporation of water recycling reduces the care home’s CO2 footprint by decreasing the demand for fresh water. This reduction lessens the pressure on Gibraltar’s local desalination plants, promoting sustainable and efficient living.

Due to wastewater capacity issues in Gibraltar, we initially faced restrictions on the size of the Elderly Care Home. By incorporating Hydraloop’s water recycling system into the design, we effectively reduced the building’s wastewater output. This solution convinced the government, allowing us to increase the number of apartments on the site. As a result, we received the building permit for the project at its intended size.
